LOCAL CREDIT UNION PARTNERED WITH SAND CREEK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TO CELEBRATE YOUTH AND SAVING
Woodbury, Minn. – United Educators Credit Union connected with Woodbury Middle School to educate children on the importance of the save, share, spend principles and financial literacy during National Credit Union's Youth Week. The 2013 theme was Savings Sleuth: Solve the Mystery at the Credit Union. Mustaches were incorporated in the theme to express the idea of "'Stache your Cash at the Credit Union."
During Youth Week, students collected funds to contribute to their charity program - The Power of One. The Power of One program will share these funds with a deserving charity designated by students. UECU supplied tootsie pops for every student who donated money. Additionally, the students could put their name in to a drawing to win valuable gift cards. Four winning names were drawn by Julie Miller, Assistant Communications Director from the Minnesota State Department of Commerce. Julie and the Department of Commerce work tirelessly to share the importance of financial literacy statewide with citizens of all ages.
"United Educators Credit Union is committed to preparing youth to be financially responsible," said Abby Bushlack, Woodbury Branch Supervisor. "The credit union's efforts would not be possible without the commitment of Woodbury Middle School and the teachers that go above and beyond."
UECU partnered with Woodbury Middle School in spring of 2008. To date, partnership highlights include branch tour, credit union volunteers for PTO activities, classroom speakers and collaboration on charity drives.
