LOCAL CREDIT UNION PARTNERED WITH SAND CREEK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TO CELEBRATE YOUTH AND SAVING
Coon Rapids, Minn. – United Educators Credit Union connected with Sand Creek Elementary School to educate children on the importance of the save, share, spend principles and financial literacy during National Credit Union's Youth Week. The 2013 theme was Savings Sleuth: Solve the Mystery at the Credit Union. Mustaches were incorporated in the theme to express the idea of "'Stache your Cash at the Credit Union."
Credit union staff presented savings account information and how to set a savings goal to all 2nd graders at Sand Creek Elementary, about 120 students in total. In addition, the credit union collaborated with the entire 1st grade to help with the set up of a school store and assist students with budgeting, spending money and making change.
"United Educators Credit Union is committed to preparing youth to be financially responsible," said Dick Ruohoniemi, Coon Rapids Branch Supervisor. "We appreciate the teachers at Sand Creek Elementary that go above and beyond, and their commitment to our financial literacy efforts."
Sand Creek Elementary School and UECU officially partnered in the fall of 2012. The partnership was established to provide support to faculty and students especially in the area of financial literacy. To date, we have collaborated on a number of activities that include classroom presentations regarding savings, wants vs. needs, writing checks and using money.
