CINDY HARMER REPRESENTS UNITED EDUCATORS CREDIT UNION ON THE MINNESOTA TEACHER OF THE YEAR SELECTION COMMITTEE

Apple Valley, Minn. – Cindy Harmer, of Shoreview, will take part in the 2011 Minnesota Teacher of the Year selection committee. The committee consists of 23 community leaders from around the state. Harmer serves on the United Educators Credit Union Board of Directors, and currently teaches at Royal Oaks Elementary School in Woodbury.

"I feel privileged to be given the opportunity to represent United Educators Credit Union on the Teacher of the Year selection committee," said Harmer. "Serving on the committee has been a great experience for me and one I take very seriously. As a teacher myself, I'm humbled to be working with these nominated teachers, and amazed at what credentials they hold and all they do for our children in the state of Minnesota."

This year's program will name the 47h Minnesota Teacher of the Year, celebrating the tradition and excellence of teaching in Minnesota. The Selection Committee has already narrowed the original field of 108 candidates from across the state to just 30 semifinalists. Candidates include pre-kindergarten through 12th-grade teachers, from public or private schools.

"All final 108 teachers could be the Teacher of the Year. I find it incredible that Minnesota teachers go above and beyond every single day to make sure our students succeed. It's so obvious that they care deeply for all of their students and take their job extremely serious every day. I'm so proud to be a part of this group and call myself a teacher."

The 2011 Minnesota Teacher of the Year will be announced Sunday, May 1, 2011 at The Northland Inn and Conference Center in Brooklyn Park. Education Minnesota organizes the program and United Educators Credit Union is a long time sponsor of the award.
